When co-owner Philippe Héroux told me he just opened a new third wave coffee shop on the corner of Boulevard Saint-Laurent and rue Villeneuve, I first thought it was cute. After all, dozens of them are sprawling all over the city right now. But Café GAB brings something different: a work environment where you are not ashamed to sip your latté for 4 hours.

“We were a couple of freelancers who wanted to create the most living-the-dream workspace in town so we simply created our own,” tells me Philippe, who mainly works as a designer and art director. “This is also a great way to connect with other talented individuals.”

Gab Café allows its regular customers to rent a work-desk inside the café for a decent hourly fee. Bundle punch cards can also be purchased online (1,50$ / H).

“Freelancers can also bring their own lunch and use our microwaves as they would at the office” explains Phil. “We are more flexible and dynamic than a traditional collaborative space, more convenient and professional than a coffee shop, and cheaper than both of them!”

And as you can judge from the pictures, it’s on the sunny side of the street. Go check them out!
